Improving Physics Education in Latin America: Identifying Teacher and Educational Center Characteristics through Machine Learning and the PISA Database

FONDOCYT 2024 - 2026

Description

Abstract

This research proposal seeks to explore the influence of teachers' and educational centers' characteristics on the development of physics competencies in students, using PISA data. A quantitative approach will be used, and statistical analysis and machine learning techniques will be implemented to identify the variables that contribute most to student performance. Among the characteristics to be analyzed are the teachers' training, the resources available at the educational center, and the pedagogical strategies employed. The findings from this research have the potential to inform the development of educational policies and the implementation of pedagogical practices that improve student performance in physics and promote interest in STEM disciplines, in line with the objectives of the Strategic Plan for Science, Technology, and Innovation.
