The Institute of Physics (IFIS) is established as an academic entity attached to the Faculty of Sciences of the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD). Its fundamental mission lies in the development of high-level scientific research in the field of Physics, as well as in related areas where significant interdisciplinary convergence exists.
Established on May 18, 1984, through Resolution No. 122-84 of the Honorable University Council, the IFIS represents the institutional evolution of the Dr. Gustavo Rathe Nuclear Sciences Laboratory, which was formerly part of the Department of Physics (now the School of Physics).
Currently, the IFIS distinguishes itself as one of the most prolific and active entities within the UASD. Backed by a highly qualified team of researchers and consistent scientific production in indexed journals, the Institute prioritizes both the generation of cutting-edge knowledge and the comprehensive training of the next generation of scientists.
